If 3D televisions, motion-sensitive controllers and immersive online gaming
still aren't enough to entertain you, then researchers at the
University of Pennsylvania might have what you're looking for.
It's a vest, embedded with finely tuned motors that mimic the sensations of
on-screen characters.
So the next time your friend shoots you in the back, you'll be able to feel
it.
It's called the Tactile Gaming Vest, but its developers have many more
ideas for it than just letting your on-screen soldier deliver real-world
punches.
Saurabh Palan, a graduate student at the university working on the project,
told technology website ieee.org that the vests could be used as an
additional element for military training exercises, sold as a package with
some video games, or movie theatres could buy the vests to make action
movies seem more realistic.
"You could feel like you're in the role," he told the website. "So every
time Bruce Willis gets shot, you feel it."
